| NIH/NIDA Post-doctoral Position, Addiction Treatment Research Center, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA |
|
Post-doctoral applications are invited for a brain imaging-focused position at the Addiction Treatment Research Center within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Our laboratory targets brain-behavioral vulnerabilities to relapse and to addiction, with the goal of improving understanding and treatment of these challenging disorders. We use imaging tools to characterize vulnerabilities (e.g., heightened response of limbic reward circuitry to drug cues; poor frontal modulation of the limbic response to appetitive and aversive/stress cues; poor inhibition, increased risk-taking, impaired decision-making, etc.), subsequently linking these vulnerabilities to drug use outcomes, and often addressing them with new candidate medications or other novel interventions (e.g., real-time fMRI feedback training). Genetic and epigenetic (e.g. prior trauma) modulators of the brain vulnerabilities are another interest of the lab, as are the shared vulnerabilities for compulsive pursuit of drug and non-drug (e.g., food, sex, gambling) rewards. The successful candidate will have strong addiction-relevant graduate training*, good oral and written communication skills, technical comfort, and a demonstrated ability to publish. Prior hands-on experience with neuroimaging is preferred.
*Candidates will have completed an MD, or PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, psychology, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, biomedical engineering/signal processing or related discipline.
The University of Pennsylvania is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Please e-mail a CV, a one-page letter of your interests, and the names of 3 references to Anna Rose Childress (childress_a@mail.trc.upenn.edu).

| Postdoctoral Fellowships in Statistical Genetics of Addiction, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX |
|
Genetics research has increased our understanding of the biological processes and mechanisms underlying human diseases tremendously, producing a rapid expansion of information. This wealth of information has resulted in a critical need for interdisciplinary research education in statistical genetics and computational methods, particularly for complex conditions such as addiction. Our program incorporates genetics and statistics into computational research within a single curriculum and helps address the shortage of researchers available to effectively teach and develop relevant new statistical methods and computational models in genetics of addiction. Through intensive mentoring and education, our postdoctoral fellows will prepare for and launch into careers as independent scientists and leaders of innovative investigations focused on the statistical genetics of addiction.
Appointments: Fellowships are funded for up to five years, renewed annually based on research progress and availability of funds.
Eligibility: This fellowship does not require US Permanent Residency (Green Card). Successful applicants will have backgrounds in genetics, pharmacology or quantitative sciences (e.g., biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, quantitative psychology) with an interest in addiction. (More...pdf)
