Drug Science Specialists, Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section, DEA
The Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section is in the process of hiring 2 Drug Science Specialists. This is a "catch-all" scientific series that we've used to hire chemists, pharmacologists, behavioral pharmacologists, physiological psychologists, clinical psychologists, pharmacists etc.
The Section currently has a staff of 24 scientists of various expertise and disciplines. The Section is responsible for all scientific and technical information on drugs of abuse for the agency. These responsibilities include domestic and international drug and chemical control, quotas, and development and maintainence of forensic analysis databases.
Specifically, this position serves as a technical advisor in the pharmaceutical, biological and physical sciences. The incumbent evaluates and synthesizes complex scientific data on abuse and diversion potentials, as well as the licit and illicit uses of drugs and chemicals. Recommends pertinent DEA policy and regulatory, legislative, and scheduling responses to the diversion, trafficking and/or abuse of drugs and chemicals. Evaluates existing data sources, defines requirements, and investigates new data sources. Recommends data sources, and obtains essential information to provide policy guidance on domestic and international drug and chemical control matters.
Represents DEA on inter-governmental and other committees, formulates agency responses to new drug abuse or drug and chemical diversion problems. Recommends scientifically defensible positions, presents and defends DEA's position outside the agency.
