The Research Department of the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center (RMPDC) , a division of Denver Health, has the following opportunity available for an Epidemiologist:
The Researched, Abuse, Diversion and Addiction-Related Surveillance (RADARS®) System provides timely and geographic-specific data to the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory agencies, policymakers and medical/public health officials to aid in understanding trends in the abuse, misuse, and diversion of prescription drugs in the United States. The System is composed of four signal detection systems and a Scientific Advisory Board and is an independent operation of the RMPDC.
The Epidemiologist will be supervising RADARS System personnel in the scientific components of the project, including but not limited to the RADARS System Fellows, signal detection system personnel, and statistics personnel.
The position includes a faculty appointment.
The ability to supervise, lead and motivate is critical!
In addition, the Epidemiologist will have management responsibility for all scientific operations of the RADARS System. The Epidemiologist will be responsible for regulatory and organizational compliance.
The Epidemiologist will also be responsible for the following:
-Coordinates the analysis and interpretation of RADARS System data.
-Develops future research directions and scientific strategies (including new signal detection systems) while coordinating their implementation.
-Works with the RADARS System management team.
-Develops research questions and determines strategies for meeting research objectives.
-Develops a publication strategy and will be responsible for preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least 75% of time in direct research activities.
Education: Doctoral, PhD in discipline directly related to research in public health and/or drug abuse issues. Must be able to meet academic criteria for Assistant Professor (mandatory) including publication and grant funding.
Experience: Two years of scientific research related experience, knowledge & competence with grant application, statistics, data analysis & scientific writing.

Some of our research studies include, but are not limited to, prescription drug abuse, analgesics toxicity (over-the-counter pain relievers), Phase II and Phase III drug trials for new antidotes, antivenom research studies (snakes, spiders, etc.) and literature reviews.
