The award he is receiving today is for his work ojos que ven (eyes that see) which was exhibited a here in the Museum of Contemorary Art. This work depicts the relationship between violence and drug addiction. When presented here in Puerto Rico it generated considerable dialogue about the growing drug problem that had been ignored. While the problem was dealt with by traditional means, schools, newspapers, law enforcement, Carlos brought it into a new light, and one that people paid attention to, with his art. The artwork is loaded with messages, rich in color and it has a sophisticated sense of composition. His paintings that constitute ojos que ven are large, about 5 by 8 ft.They reach us with messages about the social consequences of drug abuse in a convincing way. It is best that you see for yourself on these slides of ojos que ven.
